Block of the Month - November 2016

First Border

This month the instructions are for the first border around the medallion.

Cutting instructions:

Light Fabric- Cut: 4-21/2” squares

4-21/2” x 81/2” rectangles

8-2 7/8” squares

Medium Fabric- Cut: 8- 2 7/8” squares

Light Medium Fabric-Cut: 3- 11/2” {width of fabric} strips

Dark Fabric- Cut: 3- 11/2” {width of fabric} strips

The photo shows how these pieces will be put together:

Fabric Strips

Sew the strips cut from the Light Medium Fabric and dark fabric together.

Cut the 2 7/8” squares cut from the Light Fabric and the Medium Fabric in half diagonally Stitch the triangles together to make 8 half square triangles. NOTE: There are many ways to make these. We have shown one. Use the method that you prefer. Piece the remainder of this border as shown in this photo.

From these strips cut: 4- 8 1/2” strips and 8-1 1/2” pieces

Make 4-4 patch squares

Partial Assembly

Cut the 2 7/8” squares cut from the Light Fabric and the Medium Fabric in half diagonally

Stitch the triangles together to make 8 half square triangles.

NOTE: There are many ways to make these. We have shown one. Use the method that you prefer.

Piece the remainder of this border as shown in this photo:
